The
search for the perfect rug
It
all began after yet another session of yoga spent sliding
around on not-so-sticky mats. Our search for a better option
led us to the humble mysore yoga rug – a traditional
hand woven dhurrie made of cotton that has been used for yoga
practice in India for centuries. The magic of the mysore rug
lies in the natural absorbency of its cotton fibers, and the
wonderful way traction improves when it is damp. But the rugs
we came across were either the wrong size, too thin and loosely
woven, not colourfast or just plain expensive.
When we
couldn’t find what we were looking for locally, we took
our hunt for the perfect rug to India where we found a small
workshop where rugs are made with pride on traditional handlooms.
And the Gajahgoogoo mysore yoga rug was born. Colourfast,
machine washable, sturdy and good looking – it’s
everything we were looking for in a rug, and more.

The
designs are all Gajahgoogoo originals, inspired by India’s
colours and cuisine. We even sourced a version of the rug that is
rubber-backed so that you have the option to do without a sticky
mat. And the best part – because of Singapore’s proximity
to India, we enjoy cost savings that we are happy to pass on to
you.
Along the way, fellow yogis shared their other frustrations with
us – like finding good books and DVDs on ashtanga yoga; reasonably
priced and comfortable yoga wear and nice mat bags to hold it all.
We are constantly in search of good products that will make your
yoga journey a little more comfortable and through our links page,
we keep an updated list of general yoga resources and visiting teachers
to Singapore and Asia that we hope you'll find useful.
| Gajahgoogoo
is our karma yoga and we hope that the good intentions with
which we make our rugs will be felt in your practice. Do give
us your feedback, good or bad, so that we can continue to
improve the quality of our products and service.
Thanks
for visiting. Come back soon.
